'Our Bookshop' is set to open its doors to the public for the first time this week. The independent shop is the first bookshop in Tring, Hertfordshire, since the last one closed in 2012 and the local residents are delighted, with pre-orders already pouring in.
Owned and run by Ben Moorhouse, who is behind the success of Tring’s annual sell-out comedy festival, The Tringe, and the upcoming Tring Book Festival, Our Bookshop is destined to become a hub for events: bookish, comical and otherwise.
The opening comes ahead of the first Tring Book Festival, running from 8th – 17th November, featuring many household names such as Carol Ann Duffy, Lisa Jewell, Chris Packham, Max Hastings, George Alagiah and Jenni Murray. The packed schedule includes a host of debates, interviews and workshops, and, with tickets already selling out for some events, there is certainly a demand for a local literary scene.
To mark the opening of Our Bookshop, Ben Moorhouse will be joined in conversation by author and comedian Dominic Holland. The evening event, hosted on Wednesday 25th September in the High Street Bapist Church next door to the shop, will include comic entertainment, followed by a discussion about writing, Dominic’s new book, ‘I, Gabriel’, and the new bookshop. After the event, Dominic will sign books and there will be an opportunity to have a browse around the new shop.
Ben Moorhouse, proprietor of Our Bookshop and Tring Book Festival organiser, said - ‘I am absolutely delighted to be opening the doors of Our Bookshop this week. The response we’ve had from the community has been fantastic and, as the name suggests, Our Bookshop, will be a bookshop that keeps the local community at its heart. We look forward to showing you around, and recommending a book or two, next week!’
