Prof.John S. Tregoning - Live Forever? : A Curious Scientist’s Guide to Wellness, Ageing and Death
Join Professor John Tregoning as he takes a personal journey (on entering the second half of his life) through the ways in which organs go wrong starting with the most likely cause of death for someone of his age – the heart. The talk also explores stroke, dementia, diabetes, cancer and other non-communicable diseases; it will at the normal workings of the organs, how they can go wrong, what has changed in how they can be treated. In addition to the biology of our bodies, Professor Tregoning will describe some of the more commonly proposed anti-ageing ‘hacks’ and the results of slightly ill-advised self-experimentation before explaining the science that shows they don’t and can’t work. But if that all sounds a bit bleak – don’t worry there is a twist at the end that should give us all cause for hope.
